3D Printed Home - Duncan Drive, Muscatine, IA

Construction often comes with a bit of the unexpected, and that is true on this project. The concrete formula selected met necessary specifications in lab testing, but during continuous quality checks it was determined there were variations in the field. This could have been remedied in several different ways, but partners on the project decisively chose the most uncompromising path and removed the structure.

Although disappointing, it was collectively agreed that this will ensure that the standards of excellence expected from the beginning of the project are met.

The uncompromising decision to rebuild means that future 3D builds will be pushed to future years for completion. Rather than abandon the concept, we chose to refine our approach. Moving forward, we will continue advancing 3D home printing by working with local builders and developing a custom-built 3D printer.

Cast-in-Place with WikiHouse Roof - East 7th Street, Muscatine, IA

A dilapidated fourplex was demolished by the City of Muscatine and the lot was subdivided to build two new homes using cast-in-place technology. The homes will also incorporate a monoslope WikiHouse roof system.

These infill lot homes are 1,200 square feet, ranch-style homes, on slab, with 3 bedrooms, and 1.5 bathrooms. Additional living space not included in the total square footage will be available upstairs due to the innovative roof system.

Once complete, homes will be sold to first-time homebuyers, with preference for Jefferson Elementary School teachers or families that rent in the neighborhood.

Expected completion December 2025.

Cast-in-Place - Duncan Drive, Muscatine, IA

On the site of the first 3D printed home, we pivoted to cast-in-place home building technology in the Arbor Commons subdivision, a single family residential development. Three cast-in-place homes are currently under construction in this neighborhood.

These market rate homes are 1,400 square feet, ranch-style homes, on slab, with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and an attached two-car garage.

Additional details include zero entry, open concept design, oversized windows throughout, a master suite, hurricane roof anchors, spray foam insulation, and interior stick-built walls with drywall.

Expected completion fall 2025.
